HUFLIT Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality students have a career orientation exchange with BenThanh Tourist Company
To provide career guidance to students, the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality at HCMC University of Foreign Languages – Information Technology (HUFLIT) recently collaborated with the Executive Board of BenThanh Tourist Company to organize a career orientation seminar titled “Nghe chuyện ngành – Hiểu chuyện nghề” (Listening to Industry Stories – Understanding the Profession).

Attending the seminar were lecturers, specialists, and over 130 students from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality and the Faculty of Foreign Languages at HUFLIT.
As guest speakers, there were Ms. Thi Thi Capstan (Assistant to the CEO of BenThanh Tourist Company), Ms. Truong Thi Le Diem (Deputy Head of the Hotel Business Department at Vien Dong Hotel), and Mr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong (Event Director at BenThanh Tourist Company).
In the opening speech of the seminar, Mr. Ma Xuan Vinh (Deputy Head of the Tourism and Travel Department, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality) emphasized that the tourism and hotel industries are rapidly developing, offering numerous job opportunities for students in the future. These fields have attracted the attention of many young people in recent years and are currently in need of skilled human resources. The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality and BenThanh Tourist Company have been important partners in recruiting and training personnel for the tourism and hotel industry. The seminar aims to ignite students’ enthusiasm and passion for their careers.

During the discussions with the students, Ms. Thi Thi Capstan shared her story of both successes and failures in the tourism industry, from starting her own company and facing bankruptcy to becoming the Assistant to the CEO of BenThanh Tourist Company. She conveyed the message to students to always be courageous, face challenges in life, and never give up. Additionally, she reassured the graduating students that travel companies often provide training for new employees, so there is no need to worry about lacking experience when applying for positions that require it.

Ms. Truong Thi Le Diem, Deputy Head of the Hotel Business Department at Vien Dong Hotel, introduced the students to the specific jobs in the restaurant and hotel industry, as well as giving an overview of the types of rooms and job opportunities available in hotels. She pointed out that while there are many employees in the restaurant and hotel industry, there is still a shortage of high-quality personnel from universities who have been professionally trained. Therefore, students majoring in Hotel Management, especially those in the Hotel Management Department, need to be mentally prepared, enhance their knowledge and skills, and be ready to seize the current job opportunities in the industry.

Basing on the trend of young people choosing event management careers due to the glamorous appearance of the profession, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong, Event Director at BenThanh Tourist Company, continued the seminar with practical insights into the hidden aspects of this industry. He emphasized that event organization is not for forgetful or overly sensitive individuals due to the demanding nature of the profession. To excel in event management, professionals, especially young people, need to develop creative thinking, adaptability, and dedicate themselves to their work. Additionally, skills in scriptwriting, planning, and building good relationships with suppliers are crucial, as they require effective communication and negotiation skills. This calls for event management staff to be flexible yet firm to ensure tasks are completed on time while being considerate to all parties involved.

The sharing from the guest speakers helped the students to better understand the real labor market and the potential of their chosen field, helping them determine their career paths and prepare for their personal development journey, and realizing their dreams.

Besides the engaging insights from the guest speakers, the career orientation seminar “Nghe chuyện ngành – Hiểu chuyện nghề” (Listening to industry stories – Understanding the profession) also brought many surprises to the students with interactive quiz games and attractive prizes sponsored by BenThanh Tourist Company. It is hoped that in the future, HUFLIT students will seize more internship opportunities and accumulate knowledge and skills for their career development.
